“I grew up in the nineties, during the collapse of the Soviet Union and then the war. It was a difficult period. We often didn’t have electricity. But at the same time my childhood was filled with color. We went to a lot of parties where there was music, dancing. Once I met a musician. He was kind of underground. My family went to one of his concerts. It was at a painter’s studio. My parents went home, but they let me stay. I was there until four in the morning. I was maybe eleven or twelve, and I’ll never forget it.”

Monday late afternoon, tiny glasses of water, spacious parlor room.

She holds Ana’s baby in her arms, a friend visiting from Georgia sits on the couch, she also has a pouch.

The friend shows us her home in Tbilisi, it’s full of Byzantine tiles, come visit they say.
